Celtic and Medieval Singer and Harper
Margaret Davis is a singer, Celtic harper, flutist, and recorder player who has dedicated her life to performing original arrangements of Celtic and Medieval music. Known primarily for her beautiful crystal-clear vocals, Margaret Davis is also one of the Bay Area's finest folk harpers and a classically trained flutist and recorder-player. With a degree in Music and graduate studies in Medieval French and Provençal, she combines academic knowledge with a deep love and understanding of the language and music of the troubadours. Margaret also creates her own interpretations of the Celtic music of her Scottish heritage, melding Celtic and Medieval together in concert to forge a beautiful new musical blend.
Margaret has performed internationally at festivals, clubs, universities, conventions, and on the radio for over 15 years. She has recorded 15 CDs on the Flowinglass Music label -- most notably her solo CD Princess of Flowers. Her music has also been featured on educational CDs, on computer games, in videos, and is widely broadcast on traditional and Internet radio stations. Margaret's Medieval and Celtic songs have charted in the top 10 in the Medieval and Celtic genres at mp3.com, and have been featured in compilations of women Celtic singers.
Margaret grew up in Illinois, where she received degrees in Music and French from Knox College, sang in several vocal ensembles, studied flute, and led the recorder ensemble. In California she pursued graduate study in French and Provençal Medieval literature and song, after which she studied voice for nine years with internationally recognized voice teacher Lillian Loran, recorder with Eileen Hadidian, and harp with Cheryl Ann Fulton and Diana Stork. Margaret performed for six years as lead vocalist and harper with the Medieval band Gai Saber and a lifelong interest in the music of her Scots Celtic ancestry led to her work with the Celtic bands Magic Fire and Four Shillings Short. She has appeared as vocal soloist with the Renaissance music ensemble The Brass Menagerie, as harper soloist with San Francisco Renaissance Voices, and as featured harper/flutist/vocalist in the 2016 season of the California Revels.
Margaret currently leads Celtic/Early Music ensemble Brocelïande, performs with Celtic rock band Avalon Rising, co-runs Flowinglass Music with her husband singer/guitarist Kristoph Klover, and she is also one of the three therapeutic harpers of Oakland-based Healing Muses, offering healing music in hospitals and cancer care centers.
